author : Derek BirksDerek was born in Hampshire in England but spent his teenage years in Auckland, New Zealand, where he still has strong family ties. \nFor many years he taught history in a secondary school but took early retirement to concentrate on writing. Apart from his writing, he spends his time gardening, travelling, walking and taking part in archaeological digs at a Roman villa. \nDerek is interested in a wide range of historical themes but his particular favourite is the late medieval period. He writes action-packed fiction which is rooted in accurate history. \nHis debut historical novel, Feud, is set in the period of the Wars of the Roses and is the first of a series entitled Rebels \u0026amp; Brothers which follows the fortunes of the fictional Elder family.\nThe fourth and final book of the series, The Last Shroud, was published in the summer of 2015.\nDerek's new series, The Craft of Kings, is set ten years after The Last Shroud ends. It begins with Scars from the Past and continues with The Blood of Kings. Book 3, Echoes of Treason, was published in Spring 2019.\nDerek has recently embarked upon a new series set this time in the post Roman period. The first book is The Last of the Romans.\n
